Teddy Eddie 5 Levels 5 Teddy Eddie ABC
Teddy Eddie ABC

Who is this level for?

Full language immersion, lots of recordings (songs, rhymes, stories) and vocabulary always practised in sentences – this is our definition of English for 6-year-olds.

Beginners and graduates

Teddy Eddie ABC lessons are open to both Teddy Eddie Standard graduates and beginners.

6-year-olds

Children can start the ABC level at 6 years old.

What will your child gain?

Listening comprehension

In parallel with learning vocabulary, your child will develop the ability to grasp the general sense of what is being said.

Communication benefits

After a suitable period of exposure to a wide range of materials, your child will begin to communicate spontaneously in English.

Motivation to participate in activities

Young children are eager to engage in the language games and exercises proposed by the teacher in the lesson and to consolidate the material at home, and then, thus motivated, they will continue learning in the years to come.

Beginning to read

Your child will begin a wonderful reading adventure, reading his or her first English words and even whole sentences.

What are the activities like?

Teddy Eddie ABC lessons are tailored to 6-year-old learners. At this level, we start a new phase of English learning: language games for children in which English is also read, first individual words and then full sentences.

2 x 45 minutes per week

Your child needs regular contact with the language for teaching to be effective.

No more than 10 kids per group

Learning in small groups means greater comfort.

Learning through play

This form of activity gives children a positive attitude to learning English.

Access to the Playground application

In the educational Playground app, children can play language games and listen to recordings heard in the lessons.

Three books in three colours

Teddy Eddie ABC students learn from three storybooks that are used in rotation: Yellow, Red and Blue. One colour is valid for one school year.

Language-rich Education Pack

The children use their Learning Packs, full of valuable materials, during the activities.

Frequently asked questions

Do you have any questions about the Teddy Eddie ABC level? Check if the answers are in the following section. If not, feel free to contact us.

I know that reading is introduced in the Teddy Eddie ABC course. Isn’t it too early?
While we do introduce global reading in Teddy Eddie ABC groups, we do so with great sensitivity. It is the teacher’s role to decide how often and at what pace to introduce global reading exercises, based on observation of the group and their readiness assessment. Global reading appears in the Teddy Eddie ABC course because it is at the age of 6 that children start to become interested in letters, and we turn this interest into a new skill in English.
What exactly is this global reading in Teddy Eddie ABC? My child is not yet able to read in our mother tongue.
The global reading method involves memorising words as a whole, seeing them as pictures. This avoids mother tongue spelling or syllabification which could lead to unnecessary embarrassment for children who find those activities difficult. So your child doesn’t need to be able to read in their mother tongue to do well with global reading in Teddy Eddie lessons.
I have a 5-year-old daughter on the Teddy Eddie Standard course and a 6-year-old son on the Teddy Eddie ABC course. Their Education Packs look virtually the same! Why can't they be in the same group?
Although the Teddy Eddie Standard and Teddy Eddie ABC Education Packs look almost identical at first glance, there is an important difference in them: there are ABC worksheets. They are used to teach global reading on the Teddy Eddie ABC course; there are no such tasks in the group for younger children. In addition, the ABC lessons are 10 minutes longer – this is because there is more material to be learned. If the children are learning the same story, the teachers’ expectations for them will also differ. An older child will be expected to learn more from the reader than a child in a younger group. In the Teddy Eddie method, the same book gives you the opportunity to work with children of different ages in a way that maximises their language potential.
What can I do to help my child achieve better results?
Students can achieve even better results if Mum or Dad is also involved in the language learning process. With the Parent’s Guide and access to the course recordings (both components available in every Teddy Eddie Education Pack), parents are able to play games at home and sing songs from the course. Their child is sure to be enthusiastic, because this activity, even if it is in English, in the child’s eyes will still be just fun (however, through our experienced methodologists’ eyes, it will be a step towards making foreign languages become more familiar to the child at this early developmental stage).
